The Emerging Technologies Competition is the Royal Society of Chemistry’s annual innovation initiative, turning promising ideas into commercial reality. In this case, whether a technology has become a universal standard or merely the local standard in my community of practice, adoption would seem a logical course unless I have compelling personal reasons against it. Similarly, if I have adopted an emerging technology and believe that it should reach maturity as the standard, either locally or universally, my best arguments are based on the merits of the technology itself.
As far as immediate adjustments I will make to my instructional practice regarding the use of technology integration, I will allow my students to have more options in their research and reflection projects using technology (such as podcast, blogging, VoiceThread, and PowerPoint) and continue using the Jumpstart Artist program which differentiates content learning for students and uses levels of readiness in many of the program’s games.
Participants were able to hear ideas and approaches about emerging technologies coming to market; learn about innovative green plumbing and mechanical concepts; view presentations; and engaged in timely discussions on how the water utility, manufacturing, engineering and trade industries have found solutions through emerging technologies in the water efficiency, plumbing and mechanical industries.
The White House recognizes the critical importance of emerging technology, and on Thursday, June 22, the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) organized the American Leadership in Emerging Technology” event to bring together industry leaders who are developing, financing, and safeguarding some of the most promising new technologies today.
Technological growth includes incremental developments and disruptive technologies An example of the former was the gradual roll-out of DVD (digital video disc) as a development intended to follow on from the previous optical technology compact disc By contrast, disruptive technologies are those where a new method replaces the previous technology and makes it redundant, for example, the replacement of horse-drawn carriages by automobiles.
